Back to work
Well, with Independence Day over, it's time for a little bit of a lull in holidays, but that doesn't mean there isn't fun to be had.
We're starting work on our August release of our application. Last release I got to work on a huge piece of very focused functionality for our app, but it's nice to be back to Jira tickets, just kind of taking things one step at a time instead of having a 3 week goal of "Make this thing work." Plus, we're finally making the transition to a new platform. Man it sure is going to be nice to work using something Unix based even though I don't have a ton of familiarity with BSD. It's very exciting since despite this being my third dev job out of college, this is the first time I'm using a MacBook for work. Here's hoping I can help the rest of the team make the transition smoothly.
Speaking of being my third dev job, I'm so happy with where I am right now. Sure, I don't want things to be the same forever, but this is the first job that I've had that every day is a new problem to solve. Does it get tiring? Sure, but man I'd rather be doing this than making slight variations of the same form over and over and over. I won't say I hit the ground running every day when I wake up either, but this really is the first job I've had that I'm very excited to see how far I can go with it, and I feel like my whole team supports me in that goal. Really pushing for that end of year promotion and I feel like I'm supported all the way.
When it comes to personal life, things have been great too. Idk what it is, but this summer has been great for me when it comes to my local friends. Yesterday I grilled burgers and hot dogs for the whole house and everyone loved them, then we sat around watching our roommate who is new to Pikmin work through the first game
Despite all of these group hangouts though, since most of the time after work I'm in my office with my partner, Wednesdays have been designated a roommate hangout day. For the last month or two, we've been working through Gravity Falls since I've never seen it before, and neither has my partner, so we've been really enjoying everything the show has to offer. Tonight we got right up to the final four episodes and watched the shorts and it's getting pretty juicy! So excited to see how the rest of this show resolves. After that's done, who knows what we'll watch next? I think it'll be a watchthrough of Marble Hornets with just me and the roommate, because even though we've seen it plenty of times, we've never watched it together and we made plans to do it when we first moved in together and it still hasn't happened yet 😅
Lots of cool things upcoming and I'm really excited for what's next
(Sidenote: I do plan to update this site soon. I realize that it won't be long until this blog portion becomes a mile long. I'm going to try to make a "Journal" section and link to a table of contents and everything except the most recent post will go there. Also planning on adding some sort of guestbook soon. Would be nice to see feedback.)
